Low Salesforce adoption isn't a technology problem — it's a change management problem. Here's the playbook that actually works.
Why Adoption Fails
Most Salesforce implementations fail not because of bad technology, but because of bad change management. The system is configured, the training is delivered, and then everyone goes back to their spreadsheets. The root cause is almost always the same: Salesforce was built for the admin, not for the rep.
Step 1: Build It for the Rep
The first step in any adoption initiative is to audit Salesforce from the rep's perspective. How many clicks does it take to log a call? How easy is it to update an opportunity? If the system creates friction, reps will avoid it. Reduce friction first.
Step 2: Make It the Source of Truth
Adoption follows utility. If managers run pipeline reviews from Salesforce, reps will keep it updated. If forecasts come from Salesforce, reps will keep it updated. If commissions are calculated from Salesforce, reps will definitely keep it updated. Make Salesforce the system of record for everything that matters.
Step 3: Enforce the Process
Adoption requires accountability. Define what 'good' looks like in Salesforce — what fields must be populated, what activities must be logged, what stage criteria must be met — and hold the team accountable to it in every pipeline review.
Step 4: Measure and Reinforce
Track adoption metrics: login rates, activity logging rates, data completeness scores. Share them with the team. Celebrate improvement. Make adoption visible and valued.
